BEACH & BAY COTTAGE TOUR SNEAK PEEK #1
Love Letter to Coastal Living
The owners love the peaceful energy of a coastline, whether it be in California, Florida, or Delaware. As they explain, “The coast just feels like a place you can exhale and enjoy the simple things in life.” In 2019, they chose Bethany Beach as their coastline and bought a lot within walking distance to town and one block from the ocean. The home on the lot was beyond repair and had to be razed. The new beach house, completed in 2021, is a love letter to coastal living in general.
The owners describe their uncluttered aesthetic as coastal with “a bit of a boho feel.” The home feels organic in that each room and open space was designed independently based on lighting and comfort but unified by clean, simple lines. On the first level, ensuite bedrooms with ample-sized closets and bathrooms encourage family and friends to enjoy a special time at the beach. A front patio, unique to the area, allows the owners to hear the ocean while they meet neighbors and offer pets water and treats.
On the second level, an inverted floor plan takes full advantage of tall ceilings and architectural details to give an airy feel to the main living area and primary bedroom. In the family room, a small dog door hidden behind a sofa allows their beloved pet to enjoy a cozy, comfortable porch whenever he wants; this space is also perfect for the owners, their children, grandchildren, and dear friends to enjoy the sea breeze and create memories.
This home offers a master class in how best to use mirrors as a finishing design element to add dimensions to a space and complement existing decor. As she mentions, “I love mirrors because they reflect light in a room and offer a different view of whatever it is reflecting.” In addition, large-scale artwork throughout the home depicting favorite beach spots and flora on both coasts is supplemented by the owners’ outdoor photography. The ocean is never far away in this beautiful home.
This is just one of the outstanding properties that will be viewed by those who purchase tickets for the 32nd Beach & Bay Cottage Tour.
