BEACH & BAY COTTAGE TOUR SNEAK PEEK #7
Patience and Vision Rewards Salt Pond Homeowners
(Bethany Beach, DE, June 19, 2026): (Editor’s Note: This is the seventh in a series of previews of the ten homes that will be on display during the 34th Beach & Bay Cottage Tour to be held virtually July 12 through August 2 and, for 8 preselected homes, in-person on July 22 and July 23.)
For homeowners planning a renovation, the Sneak Peek #7 Owners’ approach offers a good example of patience and vision. In 2000, the Owners rented in Salt Pond and decided this active community would be an ideal location for a second home. The following year, they bought a Nanticoke home originally assembled in 1994 on a waterfront lot. Although the property was in disrepair, the “priceless” water views made their investment worthwhile.
The Owners renovated their home in three phases over two decades to enhance water views and create a welcoming home for their family and future grandchildren. In 2001, they replaced all flooring, added a children’s playroom and a music/exercise room on the first floor. Outside, they built a bulkhead and dock and discovered a sandy beach while clearing overgrown vegetation.
For several years, the Owners felt lucky just to see the large expanse of salt water but joked that their bedroom had the least desirable view. In 2015, they created a large primary suite with wonderful water views, converted a storage room into a charming bunkroom, and fully renovated the kitchen area to add dining space. The final phase, started in 2024, focused on improving curb appeal, refining the home’s exterior and interior, and installing an elevator.
Throughout this process, the Owners stayed true to their modern aesthetic. As they explain, “Our style is contemporary and not the typical beach house look.” Furnishings, décor and light wall colors allow the water views to take center stage. An unexpected sense of whimsy is woven throughout the home with playful, colorful crafts and interesting art. This sunny, modern home exudes friendliness and comfort with a sense of humor.
This is just one of the outstanding properties that will be viewed by those who purchase tickets for the 34th Beach & Bay Cottage Tour. Although this week’s home will not be available for in-person viewing, like all 10 homes on the 2026 Tour, this home will be available to be seen virtually by holders of both Combo and Virtual tickets. Each of the 10 homes on the Tour will feature a professionally produced video which will offer Tour patrons an opportunity to view each home as often as they want from anywhere during the three-week virtual tour period. Special features include bird’s-eye drone video footage and the ability to view the Tour on any internet-enabled device.
The 34th Beach & Bay Cottage Tour is proudly presented by Leslie Kopp and The Leslie Kopp Group, and this home is also sponsored by Gold Sponsor Jonathon Selway Architects.
Combo tickets are $50 and Virtual-only tickets are $35. The number of Combo tickets is limited and may be used either day of the tour, with a single entry permitted to each home. To purchase tickets or for more information, please visit the Cottage Tour’s website at beachandbaycottagetour.com.
